Tri for the Cure

Wow! What a day!! I didn't want it to end. The Tri for the Cure on Sunday, April 19 was an amazing event on so many levels. It was inspiring to see all the women out there having fun for a good cause. It was mental therapy for me personally because it proves I am still physically & mentally strong despite having cancer. It was heart warming to see so many people supporting Team SOS and wearing their team shirts.

Thank you to all 22 Team SOS athletes who competed. For most of you, it was your first triathlon. I admire your courage and determination. For some of you, the swim was your biggest fear and you still did it anyway. I applaud you for facing your fear. Congratulations to each of you for your accomplishment. I am so proud to call you friends. Thank You......Kahea, Stacy, Alisha, Yvonne, Kristy, Debra, Emily, Cheryl, Dawn, Nina, Lisa, Amy, Annette, Arielle, Julie, Sabra, Jodi, Kristen, Caroline, Tami, Anne & Ariana!!

Thanks to all the volunteers who came out early to help run the event. The race ran incredibly well and it was because of your efforts. Thank you so much! A big thanks to Julie for helping to coordinate everyone and to Coach M for organizing the water station. Thank you......Jill, Sheri, Janice, Gina, Sloan, Tracy, Stephanie, Laura, Brenda, Lisa, John, Lory, Lory's mom, Mark & Catherine........and of course, all the kids who came to help. Sorry if I forgot anyone here. Your cheers energized me along the way and kept me strong.

Thanks to all the families who came out to support their wife/daughter/mom. Your support keeps us going. You made a difference for all of us.

I must tell you that I'm so proud of my performance. I finished 3rd in my age group of 23 women and 11th overall of 66 women. This earned me a prize! WaaHooo!! I finished in 58 minutes. I felt good out there, especially on the bike. This is a huge accomplishment for me because my energy level isn't 100% and I didn't train much the last 2 months. This high will carry me through the next grueling 18 weeks of chemo treatment.

Together we celebrated our strength, good health and friendship. Our will was stronger than our skill and we succeeded. Go Team SOS!!! You are my amazing cancer support group! Looking forward to our next event!
Love, srb
