Subject: I will survive!
Hello,
You are a dear one and I want you to know that today I was diagnosed with breast cancer, invasive inductile carcinoma. This occurred very quickly & the last nine days have been a nightmare. I will have a MRI tomorrow to determine if there are more areas than just my right breast. On Monday, I will have a PET CT Scan to determine if it has spread to any other areas of my body. On Tuesday evening, Mark & I meet with my surgeon to determine the best course of action to treat my cancer. This will include surgery and maybe chemo.
I’m not asking for your sympathy. I simply may need a little more understanding & patience as I deal with the emotions & side effects of this ugly disease. I feel strong & hopeful that I can beat this. However, I know this road will not be easy. Your words of encouragement are well appreciated.
We have not told our children and will struggle to determine that right time. For this reason, we ask you to be mindful of discussing my illness. I appreciate your respect. This is very important to me and I hope you can find the discipline to honor my request.
One more thing…….last year I competed in the Tri for The Cure. I am registered for this year’s event and hope I am strong enough to compete in April. It will take a lot to keep me away. I would feel honored if you could join me in this fight by participating in this event. Please check it out. It’s a great way to celebrate your own strength and good health. You could do the full sprint tri, relay or duathlon.

Thanks for your concern, prayers and offers to help. I feel loved by so many. Thank you for your kindness. I plan on being here for a long time!!
Love, Shannon
