My Bday!

Today I turned 40! Wow! Instead of the typical dread that most people seem to feel when milestone birthdays knock at their door, I feel a sense of rebirth. In my thirties I was consumed with raising 3 babies, juggling a career, leaving a career and fighting breast cancer. For me, 40 is a new beginning. I feel strong, healthy and ready for new adventures.

Today I celebrated by doing new things that I'd never done before. We began early with breakfast at Matt's Big Breakfast in downtown Phoenix. The tiny dive is now famous for being on the Foodnetwork Guy's Diner, Drive-ins and Dives show. We were there at 7:15am and didn't have to wait too long. They use quality ingredients......even real maple syrup & cage free eggs. I had the waffle. It was yummy!!

After breakfast we drove 7 blocks north to St. Mary's Basilica for 9am mass. I've been in the church before but never for a mass. August 15 is a holy day in the Catholic church to honor the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. For this reason, it was celebrated in a special way.....not just a typical mass. The organ music was beautiful and so are the stained glass windows.

After church, we went to the Musical Instrument Museum off the 101 and Tatum. It's a new museum that opened in April. It was huge, amazing and a bit overwhelming. It was arranged by country and detailed instruments & music of that region. We wore headphones so we could hear samples of the music from each display. We didn't see everything so I'd like to go back and spend more time in certain rooms. The best part was a hands on area where we could play different instruments.....drums, harps, etc. Very cool!!

We made homemade pizzas for dinner....yum! That was my day. Not a bad start to my next decade. I look forward to the next 10yrs. Thanks to everyone who made me feel special today! Love you all! Have a great week!! Love, srb

Here we are waiting for a table at Matt's Big Breakfast.

My parents met us there for breakfast.
