On Friday, December 3, my port was removed by the surgeon who put it in April 10, 2009. For 20 months it was part of me. A protruding part of my chest that I got used to, but it was uncomfortable and painful when bumped. I could not lay flat on my bell for yoga or sleeping. Now it's gone except for another scar it left behind. Another milestone in my treatment. The procedure was simple, but still required twilight anesthesia. I was exhausted for about 5 days after until I finally felt like my normal self again. A friend made a poster for me to show her love. And now I will be soaring!!!

Here I am ready for the procedure to begin.

I requested the doctor save my port so I could take it home. Here it is. It was implanted low on my chest so I needed all that tubing. Most people have them placed just under their clavicle. Not me! I put on my backpack I would use to hike the Grand Canyon and had Mark draw with a sharpie the clearance I needed to comfortably carry my pack so it didn't sit on top of the port. My surgeon kindly obliged and placed it low and out of the way. Don't have to worry about it for our next trip in a few weeks! Hooray!
