On Saturday, April 17, my husband and I ran Pat's Run in Tempe. This was the first time for both of us. The past few years the event has conflicted with the Tri for the Cure. The run is a 4.2 mile course around Tempe to honor the legacy of Pat Tillman. He was a professional athlete, military hero and man of strong character and kindness. After 9/11, Pat left a high paying career with the NFL AZ Cardinals to serve his country. He was killed in Afghanistan in April 2004. The Pat Tillman Foundation honors scholars dedicated to improving their own lives, that of their families and country by creating a spirit of service. It's a great cause and an incredible event. There were reportedly 28,000 people out there. I tend to shy away from crazy crowd events, but I must say I enjoyed this one. I plan to do it again next year. I was a little crabby the morning of the race because our family was booked solid the entire weekend and and I can't believe we added yet one more thing. However, I ran really well and finishing on the ASU 42 yard line was pretty special. What a high!! By the way, 42 was Pat's number, thus the significance of a 4.2 mile race and finishing on the 42 yard line. Thanks to "Barbie" for encouraging us Wildcats to get out there. Love you guys!!! ---srb
