I promised you I would tell you more about my visit to the naturopath. Almost 3 weeks ago I went to see him looking for his recommendations on diet/vitamins/supplements. Dr. Rubin is board certified in naturopathic oncology and only sees cancer patients. He is well know in the valley and works closely with oncologists to complement traditional treatments. I wish I would have seeked his expertise sooner because I think he could have helped minimize some of the side effects of chemo/radiation. Oh, well....live & learn. I explained to him my lifestyle and the vitamins I'm currently taking. I actually took all my jars so he could see the brands & form factors. I wasn't too far off the mark on what he recommended I take. The 2 biggest changes are adding more protein to my diet with whey protein & taking supplements to help protect my heart from Herceptin. He reminded me that the last 8 months my body has taken a beating and depleted many nutrients from chemo/radiation. Here's my new list of supplements:
Whey Protein by Jay Robb.....very clean product. I take it in the AM after I exercise.
L-glutamine powder......helps to rebuild my muscles. It goes in my shake in the AM with the whey.
Omega 3s by Nordic Natural..........ultimate fish oil. Nordic Natural is a great company...worth the $$$.
CoQ10 ubiquinol Kaneka QH by Jarrow.........this enzyme does lots of things, but I'm taking it to help guard against heart damage & stengthen my immunity.
whole food vitamin by Country Life.......general all-purpose vitamin
Calcium.....Bone Strength by New Chapter......this is calcium via plant form.
Vitamin D3......labs showed I was low. D3 helps with bone strength, immunity, cancer risk.
Evening Primrose Oil........anti-inflammation.
Immune Assist......strengthen immunity with medicinal mushrooms
Helix Plus.....strengthen immunity with edible snails for my blood type A.
I feel the whey protein has made a difference with my energy level...especially during exercising. In addition to his recommended supplement protocol, he requested a bunch of labs drawn. I see him again this Friday and will get the results then. Based on that we will likely make changes to my protocol.
Tomorrow will be my 21st Herceptin treatment.....approaching the half way mark.
Have a great week! Love, srb
