We spent Thanksgiving in Ruidoso, New Mexico......7.5hr drive from Chandler. We rented a house and met my parents and brother.......close to a half way point between Phoenix and San Antonio.
The cousins!!
Our nieces in their turkey dresses!
I was responsible for making brussel sprouts......they are so pretty on the stalk!
Our cabin in the woods for the weekend. It was definitely cozy!
An after turkey walk around the lake.
Holiday photo shoot!!!!
Ornament exchange
The day after Thanksgiving we went to a tubing place that made their own snow. Two of the runs were open.....good enough for us. We had a blast! It rained and snowed on us.
On the way home we stopped at two missions. This one is St. Joseph Apache Mission on the Mescalero Apache Reservation. This Romanesque church was completed in 1939 after 20 years of planning and building. All local materials were used and it is dedicated to the Veterans of both World Wars. It's on the National Register of Historic Places.
This is Saint Francis de Paula Church located in Tularosa, New Mexico. It is a Franciscan Mission constructed 1865.
On to White Sands National Monument......
Snow in the distance on the mountain we just came from and white gypsum dunes beneath our feet. It was so wild!!! Felt like we were on a different planet!
We brought one sledding saucer with us and bought two more in the gift shop. Snow sledding and sand sledding within 24hr hours!! Pretty cool!
The kids could have spent all day going up and down and exploring the dunes.
HIGHLY recommend you stop at While Sands if you are passing through. The kids did a junior ranger program and we learned so much about the science that created this amazing place.
