Feed My Starving Children

Last Friday evening, my family (minus our daughter who is not old enough) served at a non-profit Christian organization committed to "Feeding God's Starving Children Hungry in Body and Spirit". It's called Feed My Starving Children. http://www.fmsc.org/
We had a wonderful experience. The approach is simple.......volunteers hand pack meals especially formulated for starving children. FMSC ships the meals (MannaPack Rice) to approx 70 countries working with other relief organizations for distribution. In assembly line fashion, we packed 4 ingredients in bags: chicken flavored broth/seasoning, dehydrated veggies, soy protein and rice. Then we sealed the bags and boxed them. It was a smooth operation and extremely well organized. They first explained their organization & mission, then we watched a short film. We then entered the warehouse to get our "on-the-job" training. The organization was started in Minnesota (my birth state :-) ). The packing site in Tempe is temporary until December pending fundraising to make it a permanent site. I hope they are successful. It was a moving experience for my whole family that left us with a feeling that we were truly making a difference. Our boys are begging to go back. They enjoyed the teamwork & knowing that children will be nourished with the food they packed. Plus, it was fun....especially doing it with friends.

Please check it out and consider giving your time to this effort. You won't be sorry! You need at least 10 people to register for a shift. The shifts are Thursday nights, Friday nights and all day Saturday. I just checked the site and they are booked until July 10. Children must be in 3rd grade to volunteer.
Make a difference.....register today! www.fmsc.org/locations/tempe
