Mark and I got away by ourselves (thanks, mom & dad) to spend some time at the Grand Canyon. It's been a long time since we visited during the summer. We were a little worried about how crazy it would be, but it wasn't too bad. This is my "Happy Place" at any season!!!
We rented bikes at the visitor center and rode around the village.
The start of our 12+ mile hike to Indian Garden & out to Plateau Point.
View of Colorado River from Plateau Point. Incredible!
Hiking back to Indian Garden.
Sweet lunch spot......cool pool to soak our feet!
It was warm, but not miserable.
1.5 mile rest stop.
Long horned sheep on trail
Back at the top......7.5hr trek.....12+ miles.
Hermits Rest......a building designed by architect, Mary J. Colter, in 1914.
She designed several buildings in the Grand Canyon. The fireplace is beautiful.
Teddy Roosevelt sat in the chair I am sitting in.
At 5AM on June 20, 2012, we rolled out of our historic rim cabin to catch the sun rising.
This photo doesn't even get close to capturing the peace and beauty of the moment.
In about the middle of the photo, you can see a trail on a flat plateau, that is Plateau Point where we hiked.
We were not the only early risers to catch the sunrise.
Check out these 2 elk.
Huge!!! Just enjoying the view and eating their breakfast.
Yavapai Point........fantastic views.
